As part of the Fall 2013 curriculum, the apparel design senior class participated in a collaborative project with Levi's innovation lab. Students were asked to design a commercially viable collection that stayed in tune with their heritage and Californian style. I sourced inspiration from Clyfford Still's '1957 Series,' specifically focusing on a canvas that is part of the MOCA's permanent collection. From there I applied the use of gels, bleach, and paint mimicking the peeling textures and layering found on the canvas. We were required to submit a tech pack with a wash development for their classic 501 jean. My wash was selected and produced as a prototype at their innovation lab in San Francisco.
